evolaris develops demo apps for Google Glass

10 February 2014

evolaris, a competence centre for mobile innovation, intensifies its research activities in the field of data glasses and prepares for the expected launch of Google Glass in 2014 by developing prototypical applications.

Graz. While speculations about the market entrance of Google Glass in the US increase, evolaris is already working on first demos and evaluates the practicability of Google’s data glasses within diverse application areas.

For instance, it is currently being tested how Formula One viewers who are on site at the race course could receive the same variety of information (e.g. ranking, pit stops, immediate events on the course etc.) that they know from television broadcasts. “There is actually no branch in which Google Glass can’t offer brand new services. Tourism, sports, media, eventually every area in which digital content offers added value for the user, data glasses can be a smart companion”, says evolaris project leader Gerald Binder, and further: “the most interesting questions result from the completely new interaction concept that Google Glass offers.”

evolaris particularly focuses on B2B-applications, for instance within the industrial sector in the context of maintenance activities that require the use of both hands. Via Google Glass, step-by-step guides can be displayed and enriched with additional audio-visual materials.

Based on extensive professional experience in the conception and realisation of mobile services, the competence centre evolaris considers itself a catalyst for initiating and implementing innovations within the field of data glasses. In this context, evolaris clearly also profits from its self-established open innovation platform where a call for proposals to gather further application ideas has been launched. Besides technical developments evolaris also focuses on the exploration of the technology acceptance of data glasses. The development of new business models coming along with the new technology and a profound examination of the topic data privacy and security are of equal relevance.

2014 will be the year of data glasses. evolaris has set itself the objective of making the new technology available for Austria’s economy. As a competent research and project partner, evolaris aims to actively contribute to the development of innovative services.
