The Fraunhofer-Institute for Open Communication Systems FOKUS, located in Berlin, develops and researches demand-oriented solutions for industry, research promotion and public authorities in the following areas:
• communication technologies and services and their interoperability
• architecture and protocols of future communication networks and platforms
• interactive technologies for individual and community applications
• integration of processes and IT-systems in eGovernment
• procedures of automation and optimization of software- and system developments in telecommunication and automotive areas
• measurement and testing of distributed telecommunication- and software systems
Joanneum Research Forschungsgesellschaft m.b.H.
Joanneum Research, located in Graz, Austria, is a non-profit technology centre with the focus on applied research and development and more than 380 highly qualified employees.
The Institute for Information Systems and Information Management emphasizes web-based information systems and digital media. The institute took part in more than 40 European Commission-funded projects since the 4th Framework Program. Joanneum Research’s long-time activities in film and video processing caused experiences that are relevant to many areas of media campaigns. This is especially the case for film and video formats, conversion of formats, text and content-based meta data, production workflows in the area of Media Asset Management and application in audio-visual archives.
Johannes-Keppler-University Linz, Institute for Informations Systems - Software Engineering
The Institute for Information Systems - Software Engineering at the Johannes-Kepler-University Linz was founded in 1987. Its most important activities are research, education and industrial cooperation in the area of software engineering. In 1992 the department was appointed a C. Doppler Laboratory for Software Engineering that ended after the maximum duration period in 1999. The department is headed by Prof. Gustav Pomberger and comprises about 15 researchers at the moment.
Current research activities include analysis of information systems, software development process management, requirement analysis, component-based and distributed software architectures as well as technologies of virtual reality for industrial application.
Karl-Franzens-University Graz
Karl-Franzens-University was founded in 1585 and comprises 7 organizational units, 6 faculties and one administration as well as 74 academic institutes and 3500 employees of which 2500 are researchers. About 27000 students are taught in 100 study programs each year with a budget of 170 million Euro.
The Institute for Information Science and Information Systems is part of the Faculty for Social and Economic Sciences and conducts research and teaching in following areas: information management, mobile communication, game-based learning, marketing technologies, acceptance of mobile services and indispensability of media.
Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, WUM
The Institute of Advertising and Marketing Research at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien) co-operates closely with the business community in research and teaching activities in order to be able to offer their most important clients, the students, a practice-oriented education and training of the highest quality that increases the students' carreer opportunities. Since the Institute is part of a university, they seek to not only prepare students for their jobs by providing them with tools they will need in their chosen profession, but also to promote the acquisition of key skills, which enable lifelong learning and allow people to launch a career in new fields of work. The practicing of soft skills such as presentation techniques and the ability to work in a group will help students to communicate and implement their ideas quickly and effectively in their future jobs.

Salzburg Research Forschungsgesellschaft m.b.H.
Salzburg Research is a research society of the federal state of Salzburg and is located at Techno-Z, which is one of the largest technology parks in Europe.
Salzburg Research conducts applied research in the area of information and communication technologies with a focus on production and management of digital content. At the moment more than 70 researchers are employed in the area of digital media, eCulture and EduMedia.
Technical University Graz, IAIK
The Insitute for Applied Information Processing and Communication Technology (IAIK) at the Technical University Graz operates activities in the following the main areas of interest:
- Applied research in the area of computer networking, embedded systems, system-on-chip design, computer- and information security
- Monitoring of fast developing technologies like information security, networking and system-on-chip design
- Teaching courses in areas corresponding to the main research areas with emphasis on new teaching methods. Students therefore work according to a project-oriented interdisciplinary approach.
Technical University Ilmenau, Institute for Media and Communication Science, Germany
The Institute for Media and Communication Sciences (IfMK) is one of Germanys biggest university institutes in this area. Concerning research and teaching the institute deals with media and communication processes from a socio-scientific point of view. The special thing about the institute is its interdisciplinary orientation that especially includes content from technical and economic sciences. This is true for the Bachelor program “Applied Media Science” and the Master program “Media and Communication science” as well as for the multifaceted research activities of the institute. Internationality is a further attribute of the institute – it includes research contacts in the whole world and exchange programs as well as bilingual study programs.
