evolaris analyses cross-platform application development for mobile devices

Applications for modern mobile devices such as the iPhone are usually developed with specific tools supplied by the manufacturer. This procedure leads to programmes that only work on the devices of the respective manufacturer. Independent software engineers have therefore developed numerous strategies to standardise application development for different devices.
In a strategic project, evolaris has analysed a variety of alternative development systems for mobile applications. Not only have technical differences been considered, but also restrictions in the distribution of such applications in manufacturer-controlled application directories, such as Apple's AppStore.
To demonstrate the insights gained in the analysis, a cross-platform application for illustrating survey results was developed with the help of open source software such as jQTouch based on open standards such as HTML 5 and JavaScript. This task showed that at least for an application with a low level of complexity a cross-platform development with comparatively low development effort is possible and the quality of the final application is satisfying.
