Congress: „Tools for identifying biodiversity” - www.bioidentify.eu
evolaris CEO Dr. Christian Kittl as project communications manager of EU eContentplus project KeyToNature is co-host of this congress. evolaris staff are going to present results of international research concerning development of interactive and mobile tools in order to identify plants and animals together with colleagues from many EU-countries.
Precise identification of organisms is not only of vital importance for quantification and preservation of biodiversity but also for agriculture, forestry, food and pharma industry, forensic biology and for the broad area of formal and informal formation on all levels. During the past decades important progress has been made concerning ways of identification. Modes range from molecular and biochemical methods for quick identification to development of interactive systems based on morpho-anatomic data. This congress offers an overview of recent progress in this area. It will foster integration of existing methods and systems, intensify communication among various research groups and elaborate the basics for integrated projects for the upcoming ten years.
The congress covers 4 topical areas:
1. Interactive tools for identification based on morpho-anatomic data (incl. image analysis)
2. Molecular and biochemical methods for identification of organisms
3. Identification of organisms in formation
4. Application of new identification tools: case studies
Final event of this congress is a round table discussion with representatives from UNESCO and EU commission as well as coordinators of the most important projects concerning biodiversity. The congress is hosted by three big European projects concerning biodiversity (KeyToNature www.key2nature.eu, EDIT www.e-taxonomy.eu und STERNA www.sterna-net.eu) in cooperation with UNESCO Office Venedig.
20.-22. September 2010, Paris, Museum national d'Histoire naturelle, Grand Amphithéâtre, 57, rue Cuvier, 75005.
